John T. Lupton II (July 23, 1926 – May 16, 2010) was an American heir to a Coca-Cola bottling fortune, businessman and philanthropist.
[1][6] He was born on July 23, 1926, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and attended the Baylor School, where he was captain of the swimming team as well as a letterman in varsity football, basketball and baseball.
[1][3][5][6] He served in the United States Navy during the Second World War and spent a year in the Pacific Ocean as a radioman.
[1][4][6] He worked for Dixie Yarns for a couple of years, but returned to the family business when his father fell ill in 1956.
[4] An avid golfer, he was Chairman of the Arnold Palmer Golf Company and helped finance the Honors Course near Ooltewah, Tennessee north of Chattanooga.
[6] After his father's death in 1977, he took over the Lyndhurst Foundation and focused on primary health care, elementary and secondary education, and arts and cultural activities.
The biggest problem that Chattanooga has ever had, they've all buttoned it up at night and went home to their little bitty conclaves and nobody communicated with anybody--including him [he points at his father's photograph] and his cohorts.
