José R. Oliver is a Puerto Rican/Catalan archaeologist who specialises in the archaeology of the Caribbean[1] and northern South America.
[2] Born in Barcelona and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Oliver went on to study anthropology in the United States, gaining his BA in the subject from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1977.
[3] He subsequently went on to study at the University of Illinois in Urabana-Champaign, gaining his MA in 1981 and then his PhD in 1989.
The Web Spun by Taino Rulers between Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, was published in 2009.
