Jovan Tomić (9 May 1869 in Nova Varoš – 22 July 1932 in Belgrade) was a Serbian historian, academic and the former director of the National Library of Serbia from 1903 to 1927.
Tomić was born in Nova Varoš in the Zlatibor District, which was at the time part of the Ottoman Empire.
He attended high school in Kragujevac and determined early that his destiny was in historical research, education and record-keeping.
His experiences abroad were put to good use when he was a professor at the teachers' training college in Aleksinac and the First Belgrade Gymnasium.
The bombing destroyed a part of its holdings, and the remaining collections were moved for safety to several different places in Belgrade, Niš and Kosovska Mitrovica.
