Jungermanniales is the largest order of liverworts.
They are distinctive among the liverworts for having thin leaf-like flaps on either side of the stem.
Due to their dorsiventral organization and scale-like, overlapping leaves, the Jungermanniales are sometimes called "scale-mosses".
