The current MP for Kaikōura is Stuart Smith of the National Party, who won the 2014 election.
[2][3] Kaikōura is one of the original 60 electorates drawn ahead of the change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting in 1996.
He retired at the end of the parliamentary term and was succeeded by Lynda Scott in the 1999 election.
Scott served for two parliamentary terms before retiring from politics and returning to the medical profession in 2005.
