Kaleli, Nusaybin

Kaleli (Kurdish: Efşê,[2] Syriac: Girefshe)[a] is a former village in the municipality and district of Nusaybin, the Mardin Province.

[1] Girefshe (today called Kaleli) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians.

[7] The Syriac Catholic bishop Gabriel Tappouni recorded that 150 Assyrians in 30 families populated Girefshe in 1913 and were served by one priest.

[8] It was inhabited by 400 Assyrians in 1914, as per the list presented to the Paris Peace Conference by the Assyro-Chaldean delegation.

[10] Amidst the Sayfo, the village's population took refuge at the Monastery of Mor Malke with their property and cattle.
