Kapele (pronounced [kaˈpeːlɛ], German: Kapellen[2]) is a village in the Municipality of Brežice in eastern Slovenia, close to the border with Croatia.
Kapele formerly contained many houses painted red, which folk tradition said served as protection against Ottoman attacks.
[5] The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Celje.
It was badly damaged in the 1895 Ljubljana earthquake and was rebuilt in 1906, when its interior was also decorated with wall paintings.
With its 56 members it has participated in numerous international competitions, released CDs of its music, and performed for local and national television.
