Based upon an annual parallax shift of 17.87 mas,[1] it is located at a distance of 183 light years from the Sun.
[9] This is an evolved K-type giant star with a stellar classification of K0.5 IIIa.
[3] The measured angular diameter of this star, after correction for limb darkening, is 1.75±0.03 mas.
[10] At the estimated distance of this star, this yields a physical size of about 10.5 times the radius of the Sun.
[11] Consequently, κ Columbae itself is known as 孫一 (Sūn yī, English: the First Star of Grandson.).
