Prior to participating in the Olympic Games, Emmons won gold at the 2002 ISSF World Shooting Championships in the 10 metre air rifle competition, and a silver medal four years later in 2006.

She won the first gold medal of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing ahead of 2004 champion and favourite for the competition, Du Li.

The couple has four children: Julie (2009), Martin Henry (2013), Emma (2015), and Gabriela Maja (2017).
