Kathleen Hersey

Kathleen Elizabeth Hersey (born February 21, 1990) is an American competition swimmer who represented the United States at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and finished fourth in the 200-meter butterfly in 2012.

Regina Hersey, a former freelance editor, died in January 2012 after a battle with colon cancer.

Hersey says she draws inspiration from her father, a financial consultant who has used a wheelchair since the 1980s after a spinal cord aneurysm, but still maintains an active lifestyle.

During her two years as a Longhorn swimmer, she won eleven Big 12 Conference championships, and was a seven-time All-American.

Hersey also competed in the 200-meter freestyle but did not advance past the semi-finals, and placed third in the 100-meter butterfly final.
