Katihar (Hindi pronunciation: [kəʈɪɦaːr]; Bengali pronunciation: [kaʈihar]),[10] historically known as Saifganj,[11] is the tenth largest city in the state of Bihar[12] in India in terms of population, Along with being one of the largest economic, educational and administrative centre in the eastern part of Bihar.

However, recently the government has announced to open an air force base airport in Chunapur, Purnia to be allowed to use for commercial use.

Hinduism is major religion in Katihar city with 185,196 Hindus (76.9%) and 53,213 Muslims (22.1%).
