[1] Khromtau has important Chromium deposits, which are currently exploited in underground mines by Kazchrome, a subsidiary of Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC).
The newly built mosque and the also new Russian orthodox church are juxtaposed on the main square of town.
