The film's sets were designed by the art director Ernst H. Albrecht.
In the Soviet Zone of Germany, it was released by the state-owned company DEFA.
King Michael XXXVII has a doppelganger, Peter Petroni, who often makes sly comments about the monarchy.
However, when the monarch gets drunk and misses his wedding date, one of his officials gets his lookalike Petroni to take his place.
