Koronadal is located in the central part of southern Mindanao, in a gently sloping plain surrounded by low mountains.

[10] The vast majority of the Koronadal's inhabitants descended from ethnic Hiligaynon migrants from Panay (mainly Iloilo) and Negros Occidental.

The cultural diversity of the region is the result of a large influx of migrants from the north during American colonial period which continued later.
