Kruszyniany

Kruszyniany [kruʂɨˈɲanɨ] (Polish Arabic: كروـشـنيانِ) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Krynki, within Sokółka County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland, close to the border with Belarus.

[1] In the past, the village was primarily a Lipka Tatar settlement.

Sites of interest in the village include a wooden mosque from the 18th century (one of the two oldest in Poland), a Muslim cemetery, a Tatar centre and museum, and an Eastern Orthodox cemetery with an Orthodox church.

[3] Around 1683, the Lipka Tatars were given land in Kruszyniany as a reward for aiding John III Sobieski in the Battle of Vienna and saving his life during the Battle of Párkány.

[3] The village was named one of Poland's official national Historic Monuments (Pomnik historii), as designated November 20, 2012.
