The municipality was created in 2004 through the merger of Cormagens, La Corbaz and Lossy-Formangueires.
[4] La Sonnaz has an area, as of 2009[update], of 6.9 square kilometers (2.7 sq mi).
[8] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (88.6%) as their first language, German is the second most common (9.1%) and Portuguese is the third (0.9%).
[8] In the 2011 federal election the most popular party was the SPS which received 32.1% of the vote.
The number of jobs in the secondary sector was 51 of which 41 or (80.4%) were in manufacturing and 11 (21.6%) were in construction.
In the tertiary sector; 3 or 7.7% were in wholesale or retail sales or the repair of motor vehicles, 7 or 17.9% were in a hotel or restaurant, 3 or 7.7% were in the information industry, 6 or 15.4% were technical professionals or scientists, 19 or 48.7% were in education.
This is followed by three years of obligatory lower Secondary school where the students are separated according to ability and aptitude.
The upper Secondary school is divided into gymnasium (university preparatory) and vocational programs.
After they finish the upper Secondary program, students may choose to attend a Tertiary school or continue their apprenticeship.
