[5][6] Statewide, other Lake Townships are located in Ashland, Logan, and Wood counties.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[7] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election.
The northern and eastern halves of the township (including Hartville) comprise the majority of the Lake Local School District, home to Lake Middle/High School.
However, the southwestern quarter of the township is zoned to North Canton City School District, and a small area in the far southeast corner of the township is part of the Plain Local School District.
