Le Châtelard, Fribourg

Le Châtelard (French: [lə ʃɑtlaʁ]; Arpitan: Châthelâr [tsaθeˈlɑ] ⓘ) is a municipality in the district of Glâne in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Le Châtelard has an area, as of 2009[update], of 7.5 square kilometers (2.9 sq mi).

Of the rest of the land, 0.24 km2 (0.093 sq mi) or 3.2% is settled (buildings or roads).

[7] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (325 or 97.9%) as their first language, Portuguese is the second most common (4 or 1.2%) and German is the third (2 or 0.6%).

[8] The age distribution, as of 2000[update], in Le Châtelard is; 48 children or 14.5% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old and 40 teenagers or 12.0% are between 10 and 19.

[7] The historical population is given in the following chart:[11][12] In the 2011 federal election the most popular party was the SVP which received 35.1% of the vote.

[7] There were 155 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 35.5% of the workforce.

The number of jobs in the primary sector was 58, of which 52 were in agriculture and 5 were in forestry or lumber production.

In the tertiary sector; 7 or 28.0% were in wholesale or retail sales or the repair of motor vehicles, 13 or 52.0% were in the movement and storage of goods, 2 or 8.0% were in a hotel or restaurant, 1 was in education.

[7] From the 2000 census[update], 308 or 92.8% were Roman Catholic, while 6 or 1.8% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.

This is followed by three years of obligatory lower Secondary school where the students are separated according to ability and aptitude.

The upper Secondary school is divided into gymnasium (university preparatory) and vocational programs.

After they finish the upper Secondary program, students may choose to attend a Tertiary school or continue their apprenticeship.
