[3] U.S. Route 20 passes through the CDP as Main Street and Housatonic Street, leading north to Lenox and Pittsfield and south to Interstate 90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike), which forms the southern edge of the CDP and accesses it via Turnpike Exit 2.

The Housatonic River flows north to south through the center of the CDP.

[2] As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 2,021 people, 901 households, and 500 families residing in the CDP.

The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.50% White, 1.39% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.24% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races.

38.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
