A detachment took part in the Fourth Anglo-Ashanti War in 1895, but the rest of the battalion remained in Ireland until moving to Halifax, Canada, in 1898.

By February 1922 the Malabar Force (which included the Leinsters) under command of Edward Thomas Humphreys had put down the rebellion.
