Lignac

Lignac (French pronunciation: [liɲak]; Limousin: Linhac) is a commune in the Indre department in central France.

It borders the ancient regions of Berry, Poitou, and La Marche in the foothills of the Massif Central.

The village lies within the parc naturel régional de la Brenne, a region noted for its lakes and wildlife.

During the Roman occupation a wealthy landowner named Linius apparently lived in the area; there are source references to Liniacum and Villa Linii.

The château was at its height between 1087 and 1112 AD when it was the home of William IX, Duke of Aquitaine.
