Linda C. Smith is professor emerita at the University of Illinois School of Information Sciences.

Smith holds a PhD in information transfer from Syracuse University,"[4] MS in information and computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, MS in library science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and BS in physics and mathematics from Allegheny College.
Smith joined the faculty of the School of Information Sciences, the iSchool at the University of Illinois, in 1977.
Smith supervised forty-six PhD dissertations to completion and served on eighty-four doctoral committees.
