Liopropoma rubre, the peppermint bass[1] or swissguard basslet, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, related to the groupers and classified within the subfamily Epinephelinae of the family Serranidae.
The posterior margin of the preoperculum has serrations while the gill cover has three flattened spines on its rear edge.
The overall colour of the body is yellow-orange marked with 5 wide black lines alongside which have red margins.
[1] Liopropoma rubre is a solitary species which occurs in coral reefs, where it lives on deep crevices and caves,[3] at depths of 3 to 46 metres (9.8 to 150.9 ft).
[1] Liopropoma rubre was first formally described in 1861 by the Cuban zoologist Felipe Poey (1799-1891) with the type locality given as Cuba.
