List of Kent county cricketers to 1842

Cricket is generally believed to have originated out of children's bat and ball games in the areas of the Weald and North and South Downs in Kent and Sussex.

[a][5][6] Although there were attempts to form County Clubs at Coxheath in 1787 and at Town Malling between 1835 and 1841, both of these ultimately failed and the first Kent County Cricket Club was established out of the Beverley Cricket Club during Canterbury Cricket Week in 1842.

[7][8][9] The new club played its first first-class match against an England side at White Hart Field in Bromley on 25–27 August 1842.

He scored 18 runs in his two first-class matches, making a score of 16 against an England team at White Hart Field in Bromley in 1841, and then playing against Sussex at the Beverley Ground in Canterbury the following year.

He may have been the father of William James Green who played three times for Kent between 1856 and 1861.
