The club was formed in 1998 as Northern Spirit and joined the National Soccer League in the 1998–99 and became defunct in 2004.
They were re-formed later in 2004 as GHFA Spirit who was selected along with 11 other teams to join the new second division of soccer in New South Wales.
The club's first team spent eight seasons in the National Soccer League.

They won their first trophy in 2007 winning the Division One championship while also being promoted to the Super League in 2008.
