List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Surrey

Designation as an SSSI gives legal protection to the most important wildlife and geological sites.

Its top level of government is provided by Surrey County Council and the lower level by eleven boroughs and districts, Elmbridge, Epsom and Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking.

Five include scheduled monuments and twenty-six are managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.

This sandy arable field has been designated an SSSI because of its large population of a nationally endangered plant, red-tipped cudweed.

The colonies in the site and neighbouring fields may represent as much as 50% of the British population.
