Its current U.S. senators are Democrats Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin.

Carl Levin was Michigan's longest-serving senator (1979–2015).

Four Michigan senators have risen to the position of President pro tempore, and one (Thomas W. Ferry) served as President of the Senate from November 22, 1875 to March 3, 1877 (as acting Vice President of the United States).
