The National Assembly is the unicameral legislature of Zambia, a landlocked country in southern Africa, east of Angola.
The term of the assembly is five years, unless it is dissolved earlier.
[2] The National Assembly has existed since 1964, before which it was known as the Legislative Council.
Of those, 156 are elected by the first-past-the-post system in single-member constituencies, a further eight are appointed by the President, and three others are ex officio members: the Vice President, the Speaker, and one of the deputy speakers.
[a][4] The constitution mandates that the constituencies are delimited after every census by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
