The Swedish diplomatic mission in Belgium was established in 1837.

From 1869 to 1895, the mission was shared with The Hague, Netherlands, located in the latter city and covering both states.

[2] In March 1956, an agreement was reached between the Swedish and Belgian governments on the mutual elevation of the respective countries' legations to embassies.

The diplomatic rank was thereafter changed to ambassador instead of envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary.

[3] The Swedish embassy closed in 2011 and since then a Stockholm-based ambassador has been responsible for the bilateral relations between Sweden and Belgium.
