The painting and the entire collection of the Czartoryski family in Warsaw were confiscated in 1942, brought to Austria and probably stolen there by American military personnel after the end of the war.

The drawing, looted by the Nazis in 1939, will be returned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art to Uri Peled, grandson of Dr. Feldmann.
