Moths (mostly nocturnal) and butterflies (mostly diurnal) together comprise the taxonomic order Lepidoptera.
The numbering system for North American moths was introduced by Ronald W. Hodges et al. in 1983 in the publication Check List of the Lepidoptera of America North of Mexico.
Although the list has been updated, the placement of some species within families is outdated.
This list covers America north of Mexico (effectively the continental United States and Canada).
This is a partial list, covering moths with MONA numbers ranging from 6089 to 7648.
