World War II: The Type VIIC submarine was depth charged and sunk in the Bay of Biscay (52°35′N 20°19′W / 52.583°N 20.317°W / 52.583; -20.317) by a Short Sunderland aircraft of 422 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force with the loss of all 52 crew.
