In 1991, One Canada Square was topped-out at 235 metres (771 ft), becoming the centrepiece of the Canary Wharf development.

There are several tall buildings planned for the City and Canary Wharf, with further clusters emerging in other districts of London including: Stratford, the South Bank, Elephant and Castle, Vauxhall, Nine Elms, Islington, Lewisham as well as in places in Outer London such as Croydon.

The next two tallest Skyscrapers planned and approved for completion by 2030 are both going to be located with in the City of London financial district this includes, 55 Bishopsgate which is expected to be 269 to 284 meters tall and 100 Leadenhall Street which is expected to be 249 to 263 meters tall upon completion according to The City of London Corporation.

Moreover, real estate developer Greenland Group are looking to restart work on The Spire London a 67 story 235 meter tall residential building located in the West India Dock near Canary Wharf that work started on in 2016 and was set to be the tallest residential building in the United Kingdom upon completion in 2021 although due to economic issues work was paused and has yet to restart.

Furthermore, it is though that upon completion of JP Morgan's new global head quarters at 270 Park Avenue that the universal bank will turn there attentions to their European head office as they have seemingly outgrown their office at 25 Bank Street and will look to expand, in which they have had a plan approved for a development project at Riverside South which would provide nearly 280,000 sq meters of office space nearly tripling the 98,000 sq meters provided at 25 Bank Street.

This would make the South Tower the tallest Building in Canary Wharf over taking One Canada Square by two meters which has held the title since 1991.
