[1] In 2002, Newberry was designated as the moose capital of Michigan by the state legislature.

[4] Luce County is served by The Newberry News, a weekly community newspaper that began in 1886.

Roman Catholicism and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America were the largest Christian groups in the county.

[13] The county government operates the jail, maintains rural roads, operates the major local courts, keeps files of deeds and mortgages, maintains vital records, administers public health regulations, and participates with the state in the provision of welfare and other social services.

The county board of commissioners controls the budget but has only limited authority to make laws or ordinances.
