The racial makeup of the town was 87.1% White, 8.1% Black or African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 2.5% from two or more races.
29.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
3 and Towar–Ennis Farmhouse and Barn Complex are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It was a double-chamber lock built in 1842, and had a lift of 10.12 feet (3.08 m) to the west.
