Mahongwe language

Due to social change and the influence of dominant languages, such as French, Mahongwe is under threat and facing rapid erosion.

Many young Mahongwe speak predominantly French, and only a few maintain proficiency in their ancestral language.

However, efforts have been made by some members of the Mahongwe community to preserve and promote their language.

Language revitalization programs have been organised, including documentation projects and teaching Mahongwe in local schools.

These efforts are critical to conserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Mahongwe people.
