Maithon

It is situated on the banks of river Barakar The name has been derived from Maithan or Mai-Ka-Than (Hindi).

The place of Mai or mother, refers to Goddess Durga or Ma Kalyaneswari of the famous Kalyaneshwari temple nearby.
