Mallard, Texas

Mallard is an unincorporated community in Montague County, Texas, United States.

It was given that name in honor of rancher A. M. Mallard, who built his headquarters close to the present-day townsite.

The population of Mallard had decreased by the late 1940s to 50, a number that was constantly reported over the following decade, no doubt likely as a result of the agricultural crisis of the 1920s and 1930s, the Great Depression, and the disruptions brought on by World War II.

Twenty people were living in Mallard in 1967, according to the latest available population figures.
