On October 6, 2021, just after 9:15 a.m., three people were shot, including a teacher and a pair of students attending Mansfield Timberview High School, one of whom was left in critical condition.
[3][4] A fourth victim, a pregnant teacher, accidentally wounded herself while trying to make an escape, and six shots were fired in total during the shooting.
[5] The shooter was identified as Timothy George Simpkins, an 18-year-old senior black male student.
[7] Simpkins faced three counts of assault with a deadly weapon,[8] and on July 20, 2023, he was found guilty of attempted capital murder.
[10] The shooting prompted authorities to monitor video feeds in real time and conduct random canine searches in classrooms.
