Marcia Chatelain

Marcia Chatelain (born 1979) is an American academic who serves as the Penn Presidential Compact Professor of Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

[1][2] She is also the creator of the Ferguson Syllabus social media campaign and the author of South Side Girls: Growing Up in the Great Migration (2015).

[7][8] In 2016, The Chronicle of Higher Education named Chatelain a Top Influencer in academics, in recognition of the success of #FergusonSyllabus.

[3][11] Chatelain has received awards from the Ford Foundation, the American Association of University Women, and the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

[5] She has won teaching awards at Georgetown University, where she serves on the Working Group on Slavery, Memory, and Reconciliation.
