Marie Brémont

Marie Marthe Augustine Lemaitre Brémont (née Mesange; 25 April 1886 – 6 June 2001)[1] was a French supercentenarian and the oldest recognized person in the world from November 2000 until her death at age 115 years 42 days.

Brémont was born in Noëllet,[2] Western France on 25 April 1886 to a lumberjack.

Her first husband, railroad worker Constant Lemaitre, was killed in the First World War.

[1] Over the course of her life, she worked as a farmer, as well as in a pharmaceutical factory, as a nanny and as a seamstress.

[3] She died at her retirement home at age 115 years 42 days in Candé, Maine-et-Loire.
