[2] The school was founded in 1855 by three Piarists related persons: the priest Hermenegild Coll i Valldemia, Pelegrí Ferrer and Ramon Cuspinera.

Its first naming was «Colegio de Cataluña», and was located at the land of the masia (traditional Catalan manor) of Can Miralpeix.

[1] The main building was designed by the architect Jeroni Boada,[7] and posteriorly improved in 1911 by Josep Goday i Casals (who used to be an alumn of the school, and founder member of the Alumni Association).

[8] The building is catalogued as a Bé Cultural d'Interès Local (Catalan: Local Cultural Heritage) at the Inventari del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya (Catalan: Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia) as IPA-8680.

During the convulsive years that marked the Spanish Civil War, Valldemia was converted into a hospital and blood bank.
