Marsum

Marsum or Marssum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmɑrsʏm]) is a village in Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands.

[5] Marsum is a terp (artificial living hill) village from the start of our era with a radial structure.

In 1631, it was owned by Tjalling van Eysinga, the grietman (mayor/judge) of Menaldumadeel who modified the building in a renaissance fantasy style.

[6] In the 1980s, parts of Marsum and Jelsum were scheduled to be demolished, because they were too close to Leeuwarden Air Base.

Large scale protests started, the buildings have remained and received improved sound isolation.
