Martin M. Bates Farmstead

The Martin M. Bates Farmstead is a historic farm property on Huntington Road in Richmond, Vermont.

The farmhouse is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, with a side-gable roof and ells extending to the right side and rear.

It has elaborate Italianate stylistic elements, including paired brackets in the eaves and porches supported by paneled posts.

None of its early buildings survive; the house wing was probably built in the 1820s by Solomon's son Elihu.

The house underwent a major restyling about 1880 by Martin Bates, under whose ownership the farm reached its greatest extent, more than 350 acres (140 ha).
