She was one of the Hampton Court Beauties, painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller for Queen Mary.
Mary Compton’s father was James Compton, 3rd Earl of Northampton, her mother being Mary Noel, daughter of Baptist Noel, 3rd Viscount Campden.
