Matiguás (Spanish pronunciation: [matiˈɣwas]) is a town and a municipality in the Matagalpa department of Nicaragua.
It was established as a town in 1920, and was promoted to the category of city in 1999.
It is the largest municipality of the department, and it is also one of the top milk producing regions in the country, along with the municipalities of Muy Muy, Río Blanco, and Paiwas.
In the Sumo language, "Matiguás" is translated as "water mouse."
