In 1956, Olga Fiallo from Santiago won, making the Dominican Republic's first representative to Miss Universe.

The Miss República Dominicana Universo Organization was created in 2003 by Belkys Reyes, and was taken over by Magali Febles in 2004.

Since 2003, the representatives of Dominican Republic for one out of the four major international pageants have been selected by this organization.

Since 2003, the representatives of Dominican Republic for three out of the four major international pageants have been selected by this organization, until in 2015 when they lost the Miss Earth franchise.
