The administrative center of the woreda is Bidire; other towns in Meda Welabu include Oborso.
A survey of the land in this woreda shows that 16.9% is arable or cultivable (10% was under annual crops), 45.6% pasture, 34% forest and heavy vegetation, and the remaining 3.5% is considered swampy, degraded or otherwise unusable.
Wheat, barley, teff, corn, sorghum and oats are important crops.
