Medu vada

'soft vada' in Tamil and Kannada) is a South Indian breakfast snack made from Vigna mungo (black lentil).

According to Vir Sanghvi, the origin of medu vada can be traced with "some certainty" to the Maddur town in present-day Karnataka.
