Metz (formerly, Chalone) is an unincorporated community in the Salinas Valley, in Monterey County, California.
[1] It is located on the Southern Pacific Railroad and County Route G15, 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of Greenfield,[2] at an elevation of 236 feet (72 m).

[2] The place was originally called Chalone when the railroad was built to the site in 1886.
[2] Upon the establishment of the post office, the settlement was renamed Metz in honor of W.H.H.
